Christopher Farnsworth’s new novel is the debut
of a new political thriller series with a unique and intriguing
twist: BLOOD OATH features an unlikely hero who
could outrun 24’s Jack Bauer and outwit Robert Ludlum’s
Jason Bourne—Nathaniel Cade is a vampire, sworn to protect
the President of the United States. Farnsworth, a screenwriter and
journalist, got the idea for BLOOD OATH after reading
an obscure fact about President Andrew Johnson pardoning an accused
bloodsucker in 1867. He imagined a very special secret agent: a
vampire who was bound 140 years ago to serve the president by a
blood oath. And to defend the United States, Cade battles enemies
far more bizarre—and more dangerous—than civilians have
ever imagined.
In BLOOD OATH, Cade is paired with
a new liaison to the Oval Office, a cocky young political operator
named Zach Barrows who has been assigned to be his new handler.
While Zach struggles to understand Cade’s very existence and
how to navigate a partnership with a blood-drinking immortal, he
and Cade uncover a grisly plot to attack the United States with
a gruesome new form of biological weapon. As Cade and Zach dig deeper
to find the truth behind the conspiracy, what they don’t realize
is that they are about to find out that they have an even more serious
opponent, a traitor who has access to the highest levels of power
– the White House itself. BLOOD OATH is an
engrossing blend of suspense and horror set against a real-world
political backdrop. In this compulsively readable twist on the political
thriller, Christopher Farnsworth offers an amusing and original
look into the world of vampires, and what it might be like if one
of them were working on Capitol Hill. |
